Habits & Meditation

This is a combo update on month three after my 10-day silent meditation retreat and work I am committing to do this year on habits. First, the meditation update. Confession #1: everything fell apart during the December holiday season. My regular schedule changed a lot (sons out of school, lots of festivities, travel across the country) and the carved out time for meditation evaporated. For three weeks my meditation was haphazard, to say the least. My meditation regularity has improved since we got back into a routine in January but things aren’t where they were pre-holidays.

That got me thinking about habits, specifically, how quickly my (seemingly) strong meditation habit imploded. In my coaching work, habit formation is a topic that comes up all the time. I realized that I wanted to do a deeper dive into what the most current literature is saying about habit formation. AND I want to apply it to good habits that I want to solidify in my life.

Step One. I’m going to read BJ Fogg’s book, Tiny Habits, and apply what I learn to regularizing my morning meditations…specifically the time and the length. (Confession #2: I only seem to be able to meditate for 30 minutes now,)

Throughout 2020 I’m going to take my knowledge of and further research into habits to make meaningful improvements in my life. I’m excited to share these insights with my clients, colleagues and friends.

I’m going to report back in March on what I learn from BJ Fogg and progress with my meditation schedule.
